‘El perro del hortelano’ is a drama of love, envy, jealousy, and honor written in 1613 by Lope de Vega.

It tells the story of Diana, Countess of Belfor, a beautiful and headstrong young woman with several aristocratic suitors who wish to marry her, and she rejects all their attempts. One night, after seeing her secretary make love to her favorite escort lady, she falls madly in love with him and becomes sick with jealousy.

In ‘The Dog in the Manger’ there is a sense of change of the norms at the limits of social class and the excitement that occurs when people test and transgress those limits.

Between the theatrical game and a rigorous, yet accessible to the audience, way of speaking with the form, this staging goes from love playing to the fight against the established, offering a lucid and not obsolete look at what we love, what we aspire to and what, ultimately, we are.
