We are proudly a bilingual Latino theatre company in NYC and while our East Village homebase venue is renovated to receive a new façade to better accommodate our growing audience, all Teatro Círculo’s shows this theatre season 2022-2023 will be presented at the 36th Street Chain Theatre located at 312 West 36th Street, 3rd Floor, between 8th & 9th Avenues in Manhattan.

Teatro Círculo presented La vida es sueño (Life is a Dream) by Calderón de la Barca directed by Mariano De Paco Serrano at the Festival Iberoamericano del Siglo de Oro – Clásicos en Alcalá (Ibero-American Festival of Spanish Golden Age Theater – Classics in Alcalá) this July 2022 thanks to a grant of Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation and USArtists International.
After two years of doing Abuelito, dime tú Program online, it was incredibly rewarding to be back “in the room” with our abuelitas and abuelitos. Their live performance was beautiful and well-received! After they took their bows, every performer received a certificate of completion!
For New York City artists, the cost of Rehearsal Space is growing increasingly high. Now, thanks to a Special Opportunity grant subsidy from NYSCA, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous People of Color) Artists and Organizations can rent affordable rehearsal space at Teatro Circulo’s modern, 3rd floor Rehearsal Studios.
Thanks to a Round Three Recovery Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, Teatro Círculo has commissioned Luis Caballero to write a new play. With rising domestic violence deaths in Puerto Rico and the U.S., Luis Caballero’s new play is a moving story of a Afro-Caribbean Puerto Rican woman who is a victim of domestic violence and whose only refuge from her pain is the music of Donna Summer.
Teatro Círculo announced today grant awards totaling $114,500 from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support the recovery of the nonprofit arts and culture sector.
Following New York State’s $105 million investment in the arts for FY2022, NYSCA has awarded more than $80 million since June 2021.
Teatro Círculo names Michael Palma Executive Director, Ginny Louloudes is made its Development Director.
“When it became clear that we would be quarantined for months, I realized that we needed to find a way to offer our season online. This would have been inconceivable to me before, but as it turned out, it was a lifeline for the company,” explained Founding Artistic Director José Cheo Oliveras.
