With your GivingTuesday donation you are helping Teatro Círculo in supporting our storytelling Superheroes of “Abuelito, dime tú” (Grandpa, Grandma, Tell Me a Story) Program.

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement where donors and nonprofits team up to transform their communities. This year GivingTuesday is in November 29, but you don’t have to wait until then to donate.
The seniors of “Abuelito, dime tú” are superheroes. “Abuelito, dime tú” taps into our abuelitas and abuelitos’ creativity through storytelling and performance, helps exercise their bodies and minds, enhance their memories, and build confidence. Our Latinx teaching artists focus on wellness and physical training through breathing, vocal, mental and strength exercises.
As our teaching artists and seniors share stories of their lives, cultures, and histories they work on storytelling. Our Superheroes explore the many ways we can tell a story: through poetry, prose, and/or theatrical narrative. The culmination of our work with “Abuelito dime tú” is the public performance, where our older adults perform in plays they’ve written or studied, before a live audience of friends and family.
Few programs in New York City actively engage seniors from low-to-moderate income neighborhoods of color, and even fewer cater to the LGBTQIA+ senior community. Teatro Círculo recognizes the need to serve these communities and address the social isolation and loneliness that is common among our older adults.
