30 Years Introducing Golden Age Classics.

Thirty years ago, a group of Puerto Rican artists presented a one-night performance of Entremeses de Cervantes, and co-founders José Cheo Oliveras, Eva Cristina Vásquez and Wanda Arriaga launched Teatro Círculo. They were supported by the leaders of NYC’s Latinx Theaters, a super who let them rehearse in empty apartments, and audiences like YOU.

20 years ago, we purchased our 64 East 4th Street home, and recently completed an 8 million-dollar renovation of the building.

During our 10th Anniversary, with the support of Council Member Margarita López and the Bloomberg Administration, we joined with IATI and Choices Theater, to purchase and renovate our 5-story home. Discover more

8 years ago, we launched CALLBACKseries, DANCEseries, and SPRINGseries to promote and support Latinx artists.

In 2015, we launched CALLBACKseries to promote Latinx artists whose work had been previously produced at the developmental level in NYC and deserves to be “called back” for a Main Stage presentation, DANCEseries which fosters and supports other art forms and disciplines in dance, such as the dance troupe Mexica Danza Folklórica and Teatro Círculo’s company-in-residence Al Margen Flamenco, and SPRINGseries that with its contemporary play presentations create dialogue between practicing Latinx theater artists and the driving issues that impact our community.

This season, thanks to a TOW Foundation Playwrights in Residence Grant, playwright Ian Robles will be in residence, and we will produce the world premiere of his play Lío’s Friend during SPRINGseries.
