A story where dignity doesn’t yield to power
At Teatro Círculo, 64 East 4th Street, NYC
Teatro Círculo presents PERIBÁÑEZ Y EL COMENDADOR DE OCAÑA (Peribáñez and the Commander of Ocaña), a Spanish Golden Age Classic by Lope de Vega in a free version by José Luis Alonso de Santos, directed by Daniel Alonso de Santos and verse direction by Karmele Aranburu.
In this exciting new take of Lope’s story, a newlywed young happy couple whose existence is made miserable by the Commander of Ocaña are forced to leave behind their home and everything they know.
This timeless tragicomedy explores what happens when the desires of the powerful collide with the dignity of “ordinary” people. Can wealth and status overcome integrity and love?
Join Teatro Círculo for a thrilling new production of PERIBÁÑEZ Y EL COMENDADOR DE OCAÑA that brings Lope’s masterpiece vividly to life for contemporary audiences remaining as relevant today as it was four centuries ago—a powerful reminder that courage and dignity can emerge from the most unexpected places.
