‘Los garabatos de la luna’ Tour & ‘Abuelito, dime tú’ in NYC Thanks to Cultural Immigrant Initiative

Teatro Círculo’s “Abuelito, dime tú” is an in-person and on-line theater residency program conducted at senior care facilities throughout the city which exercises seniors’ creativity and imagination using techniques of theatrical storytelling and performance – from playwriting to staging, conducted in English and Spanish.

Also, this June of 2025, we at Teatro Círculo were very excited to present the family-friendly bilingual play, ‘Los garabatos de la luna’ by Diana Chery-Ramírez by touring in senior centers in NYC.

Touring our work allows Teatro Círculo to provide contemporary Latin American work and Golden Age Classics, performed in Spanish, for audiences of 1st-3rd generation Latinx Americans and newly arrived immigrants. These touring performances serve to revive and preserve Spain’s Golden Age Classics and to amplify the voices of Latin American playwrights.

The purpose of the funds from the Cultural Immigrant Initiative is to support programming focused on the cultural history or traditions of an immigrant community in New York City, and to increase access to unique cultural offerings that focus on immigrant heritages.

‘Los garabatos de la luna’ Tour was made possible by a grant from the NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music & Theater (a project of the Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment & NYFA), additional funding was from the Cultural Immigrant Initiative through City Council Member Carlina Rivera, and the National Latinx Theater Initiative.

‘Abuelito, dime tú’ at Pitt Street Older Adult Center was made possible through the Cultural Immigrant Initiative, through City Council Member Carlina Rivera.
